The Fast Growing Threat of Morbid obesity!!

Obesity is characterized into different categories on the basis of BMI (Body Mass Index). BMI is also know as Quetelet index and is defined as the statistical measurement which compares an individual weight and height i.e.

A person with BMI < 18.5 is underweight
A person with BMI = 18.5-24.9 is said to have normal weight
A person with BMI = 25-29.9 is overweight
A person with BMI = 30 or greater is said to suffering from morbid obesity

Morbid obesity is highly dangerous and normally cant controlled by exercises, diet programs and medications on the contrary it needs surgery. Morbid obesity may have mechanical, metabolic and physiological adverse effects on normal body functions. It may cause serious illnesses which may prove to be life-threatening later on.

Morbid obesity can cause a number of syndromes and illnesses which are listed below:

Syndromes

Dysmetabolic Syndrome X: It is characterized by abdominal obesity, changes in insulin sensitivity, arteries inflammation, and abnormal level of blood fat.

Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome: This syndrome occur when person is severely obese i.e. 350lbs. It is characterized by frequent periods of drowsiness, narcosis during awake hours. It is also associated with sleep apnea.

Sleep Apnea Syndrome: It is characterized by difficulty in breathing during sleep even it gets stopped sometime. It may leads to loud snoring during which sometimes complete obstruction occurs and no air gets in at all. This syndrome may results in severe health conditions like high blood pressure, cardiac rhythm disturbances and even sudden death
