Obesity and BMI!!

Obesity is defined as the accumulation of excessive body fat in the body than required. It makes a person lazy, inactive and results in a number of complications like heart diseases, respiratory problems, stroke, diabetes, impotence etc.

Obesity can be measured with the help of Body Mass Index (BMI). It is the statistical measure of the weight of an individual scaled according to height. BMI is calculated as the individual’s body weight divided by the square of their height.


BMI Values and Categories

Underweight - <18.5
Normal - 18.5- 22.9
Overweight- >23
Obese I- >25
Obese II- >30
